CAH’s activities and services have been greatly affected since March 2020. With each new stage of lockdown or deconfinement, they have been adapted, and CAH strives to maintain as many services as possible while remaining safe. The good news is that employees and residents of Place St. Laurent received their first injection of vaccine to combat COVID-19 in early March 2021. Wearing a mask is obviously mandatory in all indoor public spaces at CAH, and physical distance continues to be encouraged both indoors and outdoors.
Adult Day Program in Toronto (ADP)
The ADP is open from Monday to Friday, subject to conditions. It receives a small group of clients at a time in order to be able to implement physical distancing recommendations. We alternate groups from one day to the next in order to provide respite to as many caregivers as possible and activation to as many clients as possible.
Adult Day Program in Oshawa (ADP)
The ADP in Oshawa is open 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday), under the same conditions as the ADP in Toronto, for a small group of clients at a time, alternating days for the various groups. Call 905-914-0126 to find out more.
Visits from our personal support workers continued throughout the confinement. Following the first phase of confinement in the Greater Toronto Area, we faced a significant increase in demand for this service. This trend is expected to continue once the next phase of confinement is completed.
Supportive Housing (SH)
Since the beginning of the pandemic, our team of case managers, personal support workers and receptionists have worked hard and successfully to ensure the safety and well-being of the clients of our supportive housing program residing at Place Saint-Laurent.
Slowly, we started serving lunch again in the dining room of Place Saint-Laurent for small groups. Single clients (or couples living under the same roof) are seated at individual tables and every precaution is taken. In order to allow as many of our clients as possible to benefit from this opportunity we have planned a rotation.
Our transportation service continues to provide safe support to clients who need to get to their medical appointments. This service has been made easier since we have our new van adapted for people with reduced mobility, purchased with donations from the community!
Case Management and Caregiver Support
The CAH team continues to support Francophones in navigating the health system and caregivers through this very difficult time. We have taken advantage of technology to keep in touch with our clients and we will continue to implement a hybrid intervention model with face-to-face visits as well as virtual meetings. Case managers from CAH are managing the francophone component of Toronto Seniors HELPLINE/Ligne d’aide pour aînés de Toronto (416-217-2077 or 1-877-621-2077).
Reintegration Care Unit (RCU)
Our Reintegration Care Unit has continued to operate and continues to provide a range of support services to our clients who have just left hospital but are not quite ready to return home. The unit also receives clients who are waiting to be admitted to long-term care.
Centre for Active Living (CAL)
After a drastic halt in its social activities due to unfortunate circumstances, the CAL’s programming has begun to embrace the ZOOM platform to enable our customers to stay connected, active and engaged, in complete security. Our affordable housing program for francophone or francophile seniors at Place Saint Laurent is active again. Our team is able to support its new tenants in moving in safely. Place Saint-Laurent offers an environment that is highly concerned about the safety, well-being and quality of life of its residents.
